What discs should beginners buy to expand their game? - Elemental Disc Golf

One of the most common Questions we get asked here at Elemental disc golf is:

I've been playing for Less than six months, And want to know what discs i should buy that will work for beginners?

While there is no Definite answer that works for everyone, the two biggest things to consider for newer throwers are Ease of Throwing, and Value.

Ease of Use

This is the Factor that can ultimately depend on the thrower themselves, as we always encourage players to find discs that work with their particular throwing style. While there are Hundreds of youtube videos that are out there to show you the "Proper" Disc golf form (Which does help with Distance), We encourage newer players to find discs that work for their current style of play, and see how their flight changes as they grown and learn the sport.

Generally Speaking, We encourage Newer Players to stay at 9 Speed discs or Lower, and to look for Neutral Flying Discs...Where the last 2 flight numbers equal as close to zero when added together. Discs that Meet these qualifications are generally the easiest to learn, and work with the widest number of players from beginners to professionals.

Another Consideration is Disc Weight. Players who are under 18 Years old, or Over 50, often prefer to use discs that weigh in Under 165g, as the lighter weight allows for more distance, with less effort. This Being said, lighter weight discs are much more susceptible to windy condition on the course, and may not be ideal in all situations.

Why is Value Important for New Players?

While it may be tempting to the Newest Releases with the coolest stamped design, Often these "Special Edition" Discs come with a higher cost. While newer players are learning the game, its more likely they'll have an errant throw that may end up with a disc getting lost out on the course (It's happens to the best players too, don't feel bad). Thus, We encourage Players learning the game to stick with discs that wont break the bank... as it allows for more experimentation, and less distress if a disc is lost!

When Considering Value, Nothing Beats Used Discs. That's why here at Elemental Disc Golf we stock a wide selection of Pre-Owned Discs, All Priced Between $6-$11, To allow you to try a new mold at a fraction of the new Disc Cost.

1 - Discraft Buzzz SS

3) Prodigy Discs Pa-3

Prodigy 300 PA - 3 ( 3 / 4 / 0 / 1 ) - Elemental Disc Golf

The Prodigy Discs Pa-3 is one of the Most Universally loved in Disc Golf. While we do encourage platers to find a Putter that feels good in their hand when they grip it, the Pa-3 is one putter that is a good starting point to figuring out what Putter would work best for your game. From here, you can Figure out if you'd like more or less stability, A Deeper putter, or even if you want more (Or less) glide from your Putter!
